With dazzling Gothic spires illuminating the skyline, St. Lourdes Church stands majestically in the heart of Trichy like a castle. St. Lourdes Church is also known as Our Lady of Lourdes Church is located inside the campus of St. Joseph’s College Trichy. The church was built in the year 1895 in the Gallo-Catholic design and it is a replica of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, France. The church is situated near the famous temple Rock Fort

The hallowed church stands 200 feet in height and can be seen from 8 km radius. Inside the church, the stained glasses poignantly depict stories from the Bible and the exterior of the church have not been repainted to maintain its antiquity.

Lourdes Church is devoted to Our Lady of Lourdes, a Roman Catholic title of the Blessed Virgin Mary venerated in honour of the Marian apparitions around Lourdes in France.

Architectural Features of the Church

• 5 Statues of Great Saints in the middle of the Tower.
• The Gothic Tower filled with artistic petal-like flowers and dolls in the shape of pet animals.
• The Chimney Bell at a height of 90 feet.
• Colourfully stained glass windows depicting the life of Jesus, Jesuit Saints and Evangelists.
• Grotto of our Heart of Jesus on the right side and grotto of our Lady on the left side at the entrance.
• 14 stations of the Way of the Cross on the inner church road.

The church is visited by people from various parts of the world, especially during the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes observed on 11th February. It is believed that one can obtain refreshment, hope, inspiration and a healthy life by praying to Our Lady of Lourdes. Miracles like dangerous diseases have been cured through the blessings and the sanctity of Our Lady of Lourdes. The Church remains one of the most frequently visiting Christian shrines in India.
